FIU Academic Health Center 4

Miami, FL

As a part of its commitment to research, Florida International University (FIU) invested in several Academic Health Centers – facilities dedicated to student academics and research. Academic Health Center 4 was a $43 million project, featuring metal products from CENTRIA, located on the Modesta A. Maidique Campus. It features an auditorium, rooms designed for small group instruction, classrooms, research labs and offices.

Described as Miami’s first and only public research university, FIU is a top-tier research institution, emphasizing research as a major component in the university’s mission. The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and the School of Computing and Information Sciences’ Discovery Lab, are just two of many colleges, schools and centers that allow the university to complete research initiatives.

The architects for this project specified CENTRIA products because of their combination of durability, sustainability, aesthetics and economic advantages.

CENTRIA’s Formawall Dimension Series insulated metal panel wall system provides thermal efficiency and moisture control in a single panelized component. CENTRIA’s advanced thermal and moisture protection (ATMP®) technology allows Formawall Dimension Series IMPs to provide superior thermal and moisture protection without sacrificing aesthetics. Available in horizontal and vertical panels, Formawall Dimension Series panels also offer a wide range of lengths, thicknesses, reveals and profiles, along with integrated wall components like windows, louvers and sunshades, for an integrated, high performance system.

The MetalWrap™ sheathing insulated backup system is a four-in-one panel, including exterior sheathing, vapor barrier, air barrier and thermal insulation. This eliminates the need for conventional batt or board insulation, exterior gypsum, air barriers, vapor retarders and building wraps and means one-step installation by one contractor. The system serves as a high-performance backup wall for nearly any building envelope, including brick, masonry, terra cotta, single-metal and more.

The sleek and innovative aesthetics of CENTRIA’s panels were an integral part of the architect’s vision, contributing to the beautiful façade of the building. Concept Series concealed fastener panels provide thousands of combinations of articulation, shadows, and sight lines, along with a complete line of design, finish, integration, special systems and detail options. The CS-260 panels contributed to the unique look that the architect desired.
