Carpenters Training Center

Pittsburgh, PA

With constant advancements and technological changes to the construction industry, it’s imperative for carpenters to continuously advance their own skills in order to remain competitive. The Greater Pennsylvania Regional Council of Carpenters made a significant investment in a new training center next to its 42,000-square-foot headquarters outside of Pittsburgh, with the help of architectural metal products from CENTRIA.

The 93,000-square-foot, two-story space is used for training apprentices in commercial, residential, heavy highway, floor covering and cabinet making. The center is spacious with grand windows that flood the building with natural light to create a positive and productive work space. Earth-toned and wood-shaded colors were incorporated to complement the building’s purpose as a carpentry training center. The first floor ceilings are 22 feet high, and the second floor ceilings are 32 feet high.

CENTRIA’s Concept Series Concealed Fastener Profiles and MicroSeam Corners were selected for their durability, advanced energy-efficiency, nearly unlimited color and texture finishes and versatile installation possibilities.

The Concept Series single-skin panels have concealed clips and fasteners, along with a common lock joint that allows the panels to be interchanged for interesting custom aesthetics. The panels may also be installed vertically or horizontally, resulting in a clean, unbroken appearance. And from a performance perspective, the panels may be insulated to provide thermal protection.

The MicroSeam Corners use cutting edge structural bonding techniques to produce corners that appear virtually seamless and are manufactured from the same G-90 galvanized steel coil as the panels, eliminating the welding and pop rivets commonly associated with corners. This technology employs a notched, bent and structurally bonded mitered corner assembly, providing a trimless horizontal profile for both inside and outside corners, along with incredibly clean corner transitions.
