CENTRIA's Product Innovation Center Open for Business
Products developed and put to the test, building teams trained
Ambridge, Pa., March 5, 2010—CENTRIA announced the opening of its Product Innovation Center, which houses the company’s testing and training facilities for its metal wall and roof systems for commercial and industrial buildings.
“The main functions served by this new facility are product testing, product installation feasibility and installation training,” said Keith Boyer, Director of Design and Development, CENTRIA. “The Innovation Center provides a place where engineers and detailers can prove out their ideas via full scale product testing and assembly. Once products are developed, installers are trained via classroom instruction and hands-on assembly training. Customers and architects also visit the Center to view product mockups as well as the architectural wall products used on the Center’s riverside façade.”
The Product Innovation Center contains indoor and outdoor testing facilities, equipment and capabilities, including: sample fabrication; mock ups of wall and window systems; and air, water and load testing areas. In addition to testing new products, CENTRIA also uses these areas, particularly the mock up systems area, to demonstrate the physical properties of its various products, best practices in application and to conduct focus groups for customer input on quality, performance and the aesthetic attributes of products.
The Innovation Center’s training facilities are used for product training sessions for up to 50 individuals at a time. Training sessions are held approximately every six weeks at the Center throughout the year.
“We also practice what we preach here,” said Boyer, “as portions of the building feature numerous CENTRIA products and systems.” These products include CENTRIA’s Formawall® Dimension Series® foam insulated panels and Concept Series® concealed fastener profiled panels, Formawall Dimension Series PE foam panels with integrated seal plate, MetalWrap™ insulated composite back-up panels, and Formavue™ windows. The Center will soon be outfitted with SolarCrest™, CENTRIA’s building integrated photovoltaic metal roof panel.
“What’s really unique is that there are portions of the structure where the mechanics of these products are visible from the interior of the building so building teams in training can see the science behind the aesthetics,” said Boyer. The new CENTRIA Product Innovation Center not only contains a classroom, the building is a classroom.

CENTRIA’s Kolorshift™ Series Amplifies Design Possibilities
Unique paints transform based on the viewing angle or direction of sunlight
Moon Township, Pa., June 10, 2010—CENTRIA introduces Kolorshift, a series of iridescent paint colors designed to change the appearance of the metal surface of a building depending on the viewing angle or direction of sunlight.
“CENTRIA prides itself on offering architects and building owners unlimited design possibilities in terms of form, color and texture,” said Rick Brow, Director of Marketing, CENTRIA. “Kolorshift provides yet another unique option with aesthetically pleasing results that helps create a truly distinctive design.”
By using Kolorshift, an architect can design a building where a pedestrian’s first experience it as silver, then purple as they walk by it. While design teams have always employed solar orientation, especially as part of improving a building’s performance (i.e. heat loss/gain), now they can also use it to create a building that transforms from green as the sun rises to copper as the sun sets.
This new line of CENTRIA paints offers a myriad of design possibilities for exterior metal walls. The continuous iridescent color gradient creates depth to the exterior of a building and adds distinguished aesthetic value—all with the exceptional performance expected from CENTRIA’s products.
Kolorshift Series paints are formulated as a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) coating system with 70 percent Kynar 500®/Hylar 5000® resins, which provide lasting durability. The Kolorshift paints are applied by coil coating in order to provide consistent color and available with a standard 20-year warranty.

CENTRIA Launches Formawall® Dimension Series®
BIM Objects
Building Information Modeling (BIM) tool helps architects, owners bring projects to life
Pittsburgh, October 23, 2009 — CENTRIA Architectural Systems announces the launch of BIM objects representing its Formawall Dimension Series wall system. These BIM objects are available to the architectural community through the e-CENTRIA portal located at www.CENTRIA.com and can be found in the details section under the Formawall Dimension Series pages.
“Building Information Modeling is the process of creating and utilizing 3-D digital models for design, detailing and drawings for building projects,” said Greg Lusty, Foam Product Manager, CENTRIA. “In 2007, 28 percent of the market was using BIM in one form or another. Today, almost 50 percent of the market uses BIM. Through the use of BIM, architects can benefit by reduced information coordination, improved productivity and by offering superior visualization of a project. Building owners benefit through lower project costs, a faster construction process and better overall construction.”
CENTRIA’s Formawall Dimension Series BIM objects create the three-dimensional representations of the insulated metal wall panel system. Revit®, the industry’s leading BIM development software program was used to create the objects. The Formawall Dimension Series BIM object allows users the flexibility to easily change module sizes, panel lengths and reveals. The objects can also be customized with CENTRIA standard and custom colors as well as its Duracast® textured finish.
Openings, such as windows, can be easily inserted into the Formawall Dimension Series BIM object, and other building materials such as brick, concrete and curtainwall can also be used in correlation with the product. Additionally, material take offs can be easily created through the use of the BIM object. The model automatically counts the sizes and quantities of the panels used in the project and exports the information to a spreadsheet.
“Formawall Dimension Series is the only wall system that provides both advanced thermal efficiency and moisture control in a single panelized component,” said Lusty. “This performance, along with the system’s ability to provide designers virtually unlimited design possibilities in form, color and texture, have made it the industry’s preferred metal wall system. Now architects and owners can take one step further toward realizing their vision through Formawall Dimension Series BIM Objects.”

CENTRIA Announces New Versacor® Ultra Coatings
Ultra family of premium coatings offers protection, performance and aesthetics
Moon Township, Pa., April 14, 2009 — CENTRIA (www.CENTRIA.com) announces Versacor Ultra, new high-build coatings that offer enhanced protection against harsh climatic or environmental conditions. Compared to most thin-film architectural coatings available, Versacor Ultra coatings provide a 3-mil-thick Versacor Ultra Barrier Coat Primer over the metal substrate and several topcoat finish combinations to achieve superior resistance against corrosion, humidity and abrasion.
“CENTRIA has more than 100 years of experience and technology in providing high-quality color and coating solutions for metal walls and roofs,” said Rick Brow, Director of Marketing for CENTRIA Architectural Systems. “These Versacor Ultra coatings not only continue that tradition of quality in terms of performance, they also satisfy owners’ and architects’ aesthetic needs with a full palette of color options.”
Coatings within the Versacor Ultra family include Versacor Ultra PF and Versacor Ultra TF and HF. Versacor Ultra PF is ideal for corrosive architectural applications such as coastal environments. This coating consists of a 3-mil-thick Versacor Ultra Barrier Coat Primer and a .8-mil-thick PVDF top coat. On industrial applications, Versacor Ultra TF and HF combine the superior corrosion resistance of the 3-mil-thick Versacor Ultra Barrier Coat Primer with the durability of a Urethane topcoat. The Urethane topcoat ranges from 1.5-mils thick on Versacor Ultra TF to 3-mils thick on Versacor Ultra HF.
Additionally, on most of CENTRIA’s Profile Series panels with a Versacor Ultra coating system, an additional 3-mil-thick Versacor Barrier Coat Primer is applied to the interior of the metal substrate, offering full reverse side coating protection. A Urethane topcoat, wash coat or primer is then applied over the barrier coat, helping to protect the metal against corrosion from the interior. As more exterior walls are designed with back ventilated rainscreen wall systems, this additional protection can extend the life of the wall system.

CENTRIA Introduces New Formawall® PE
Pressure Equalized Vertical Seal Plate provides superior defense against water intrusion
Moon Township, Pa., March 17, 2009 — CENTRIA (www.CENTRIA.com) introduces Formawall PE, a pressure equalized vertical seal plate for CENTRIA’s horizontal Formawall® Dimension Series® and Formawall® Graphix Series™ exterior metal wall panels. “CENTRIA’s Formawall panels have always offered architects a complete wall system with advanced thermal efficiency and a pressure equalized horizontal joint for moisture control in a single panelized solution,” said Greg Lusty, architectural foam product manager, CENTRIA. “Now in addition to these features, and along with virtually unlimited possibilities in form, color and texture, the Formawall PE vertical seal plate offers even more advanced protection against water infiltration, especially with integrated wall components like windows, louvers and sunshades.” Key features and benefits of Formawall PE include a versatile extruded aluminum seal plate design that can be used on structural tubes or studs. A gasket and sealant create two lines of defense against water intrusion and the air seal can be inspected for continuity from the interior. Now the vertical and horizontal joinery, all pressure-equalized, minimize the force that normally drives water through an opening and the integrated vented drainage channel in the seal plate vents any moisture penetrating the gasket seal to the exterior without compromising the air seal.

Prepainted Metal Increases Profits and Helps the Environment
Factories that switch to prepainted metal are gaining a new competitive edge: energy savings. Outsourcing paint operations, via prepainted metal, can dramatically reduce a manufacturer’s total energy consumption. With prepainted metal, the coil coater assumes the energy costs needed to coat the metal and, thanks to coil coating’s highly efficient processes, uses less total energy, cutting energy demands for the manufacturer…and the planet. This makes prepainting a unique solution that can increase your profits while helping our environment.
In addition to energy savings, converting to the coil coating process further helps reduce costs for manufacturers by eliminating the time and hassles associated with EPA filing requirements and permits associated with vapor degreasers, paint booths, and washers. This helps manufacturers and our environment in the following ways:
• Reduces waste handling costs • Eases burden of record keeping, reports and permits • Curbs water usage • Lowers maintenance costs
For years, coil coaters have worked to reduce waste and emissions with the latest technology and ongoing field research. Because of these efforts, coil coating is the most efficient process known for applying finishes to metals. Coil coating manufacturing facilities utilize state-of-the-art processes that employ EPA-approved water and pollution equipment to apply coatings to metal at high speeds with minimal environmental impact.
The National Coil Coating Association (NCCA) is committed to making manufacturers more efficient, profitable, and environmentally friendly. The NCCA’s Environmental Stewardship Committee continues to research and implement new ideas to build on the coated coil industry’s environmental benefits.
With the help of the NCCA and coil coating technology, now going green can help manufacturers stay in the black.
To learn more about coil coating’s green benefits, visit www.coilcoatinginstitute.org and view the NCCA’s Online Tutorial “Energy and Environmental Benefits of Prepaint.”
Jim Dockey is the Sales & Marketing Manager for CENTRIA Coating Services, and an active member of the National Coil Coating Association's marketing committee.

CENTRIA International Announces New Versacor Ultra Coatings
Versacor Ultra family of premium coatings offer protection, performance and aesthetics
PITTSBURGH, United States, April 23, 2009— CENTRIA (www.CENTRIA.com) announces Versacor Ultra, new high-build coatings that offer enhanced protection against harsh climatic or environmental conditions. Compared to most thin-film architectural coatings available, Versacor Ultra coatings provide a 75 micron (3-mil) Versacor Ultra Barrier Coat Primer over the metal substrate and several topcoat finish combinations to achieve superior resistance against corrosion, humidity and abrasion.
“CENTRIA has more than 100 years of experience and technology in providing high-quality color and coating solutions for metal walls and roofs,” said Julie Pawuk, Marketing Communications Manager. “The original Versacor coatings provided industry leading corrosion protection for cladding material through the use of multi-layer coating technology. The new Versacor Ultra finishes follow the same philosophy to provide enhanced performance over the original systems through the use of the latest paint and barrier coat technologies, yet they also satisfy owners’ and architects’ aesthetic needs with a full palette of color options.”
Coatings within the Versacor Ultra family include Versacor Ultra PF and Versacor Ultra TF and HF. Versacor Ultra PF is ideal for corrosive architectural applications such as coastal environments. This coating consists of a 75-micron- (3 mil) thick Versacor Ultra Barrier Coat Primer and a 20 micron (0.8 mil) nominal PVDF top coat. On severe industrial applications, Versacor Ultra TF and HF both combine the superior corrosion resistance of the 75-micron- (3 mil) thick Versacor Ultra Barrier Coat Primer with the durability of a Urethane topcoat. The Urethane topcoat ranges from 38 microns (1.5 mils) on Versacor Ultra TF to 75 microns (3 mils) on Versacor Ultra HF.
Additionally, on most of CENTRIA’s Profile Series panels with a Versacor Ultra coating system, an additional 75 micron (3 mil) Versacor Barrier Coat Primer is applied to the interior of the metal substrate, offering full reverse side coating protection. An internal paint finish of either standard acrylic wash coat, Urethane or primer is then applied over the barrier coat, helping to protect the metal against corrosion from the interior and at the underside of profile lap conditions. As more exterior walls are designed with back ventilated rainscreen wall systems, this additional protection will extend the life of the wall system.
